Hello, friends!
This summer we decided to change the island where we spend the vacation. Lesvos is a fantastic island, but after being there for no less than six times, we thought it's time for a change. And we chose another island, Samothraki. The island is smaller, but loaded with rocks, history and beautiful places. Talking about history, this is the place where the ancient statue "Victory of Samothrace" was found.

Back to our trip, now. We drove from home some 600 km, to Alexandroupoli - Greece. Here we went to the harbor and waited for the ship to arrive. While waiting, I noticed this "sailor" on a small fishing boat:
Pretty soon, the ship came on sight...
... and came to the shore.
After a short crossing, of only a bit over two hours, we arrived in the harbour of Samothraki and got out of the ship:
The vacation was quiet, we mainly went to beaches all around the island:
As I told you, the island is full of rocks, but nothing interesting from the gemmy point of view. Mainly granites.
The only rock I picked from there is a bir round stepping stone which we put in our garden. Much more interesting are the ancient rocks - the temple where they found that statue I was talking about before.
The island is full of goats and sheep. You can spot them everywhere:
And when I say everywhere, I mean everywhere, even in the restaurants:
The island is also pretty "green" compared to others. Many trees all over. We also took a trip to a cascade. The path was marked in the local style...
... but otherwise it was pretty clear where to go, as it went paralel to the river.
The scenery is great, and the trees add very much to this. We even spotted some very interestring trees.
Some of them appear to be in love to each other:
Some of them seem to have a wicked sense of humour:
And this fellow bit a little more than he could chew:
Here's the target of the trip - the cascade:
The lush trees were not only there, but also in the place we slept. Bungalows engulfed into all sorts of trees:
I hope you enjoyed the story and the pictures,
Thank you for looking.
Adrian
