Cleared/clearing forest for bamboo to expand into for a month. Basically growing/expanding for speculation of leasing for film sites. Best to clear on the south side of the grove as it spreads fastest in the direction of the sun heated soil. Lost 15 pounds, sitting pulse 48, blood pressure 65/100. Way better than before. and have always smoked 2 packs cigs/day One of the most beautiful, Robert Young. Thick canes, short and stocky. Deep rooted. Forest being cleared to left and right. Forest to left of bamboo in photo(south) Opening, WIP. right to left. Then the trees in the gorge behind the tractor will have to be cut and dragged up the hill w/tractor into the opening for reduction. Cut up trees being pushed into windrow down slope to left w/tractor too rot. Photo from bamboo toward direction to spread. Will leave the big trees, they are too tall to block the sunlight And this area to the right of the grove is being cleared of a crappy bamboo. Just saw them off and the yellow bamboo will take it over. crappy bamboo freezes, better pic of dead canes. Bamboo much more work per unit area than forest clearing To give an idea of spread rate, the group to the right of the dark spot in the center is 2 years minus me hedging some of it. Once a grove like this is established in like 10 years additional spread is very fast given open land.

At that rate if you don't get into the movies you will be able to start chopstick production and supply half of china. great pulse and respiration, that's amazing, especially considering the smoking habit. good on you. amazing what one person with a determined mindset can do. How the pioneers did it... only without the sophisticated tools we use these days. It would be cool to see an aerial photo today and compare with one a couple years from now. Know anybody with a plane who could take one? Google Earth satellite close up ?

Know anybody with a plane who could take one? Google Earth satellite close up ? A super sharp lite weight chain saw and the diesel tractor helps a whole bunch snowmom. Especially the lite saw. It reduces the tree to nothing in short order for pushing down hill into a pile. This clearing 1.5 acres. Time lapse 5 years starting with slower dug clumps:

You have the most beautiful backyard! It's a big backyard Pat. The house is the silver building on the left. Photo of lower section of farm. The aquatic nursery on the right. It is on a separate lot and can be sold separate. The bamboo patch in this thread is the green patch at lower left. Photo is in winter, so bamboo(brighter green) and pines(darker green) can be differentiated from the dormant hard woods.

drocknut Diane, I am a candy. I bought a newer lite weight 3 cu.in. Husky. They are now full of plastic and not heavy. Got big saws like the one I saw you yielding, but no longer interested in slinging them all day. You understand, 100's of less than 6 inch trees.

Those big saws can give ya a workout. The newer stihl saws have more plastic too. Not as good if you drop one though.

Yes drocknut. Stihl doing plastic too. This one a Husky Rancher 445 or 450. 3 cu in, 10.8 pounds. Fast engine and lots of grunt. Rips thru an 18 tree" too w/sharp chain. Diane, it was on ebay free shipping $259-reconditioned by Husky. Kinda revolutionized limbing and understory removal. Bought 5 chains and let the pros sharpen them with the wheel grinder set up when all dull.

James, you are a man of many talents. Interesting stuff. Sent photos of bamboo groves to a major film studio on a whim Paul. Expecting to never hear back. They jumped all over me. Am thinking about marketing as 'Bamboo Backdrops' or 'Bamboo Stages' to film ind. So a passive expansion of the groves. Got on a forum that offers film sites for lease and lessors. Amazing how much activity. Film biz looking for tall green backdrops too, bamboo being evergreen fits the bill. Especially for winter shoots.

I did some sharpening myself but definitely prefer to let the pros do it with their machines.

My slave camp for 25 years Paul. Funny, I was just watching "Uncommon Valor" and I thought I saw your place in the "intelligence photos" that Gene Hackman was using. I could only wish Paul. I am trying to track a Toby Corbett flick in the making. Something to do with landing helicopters in Venezuela in a football sized field surrounded by bamboo. He visited and rejected my place for the shoot. I had such a field surrounded in bamboo but it had ponds in it, a problem for the helicopters-dang it. Will check out Uncommon Valor. Have seen it, but memory poor.
