Yeah, gotta be a puffball. If memory serves all puffballs are edible and choice for the eating.

Looks like a type of Puffball but the ones I have seen have smooth exteriors and are almost perfectly round. We have them up to Soccer ball size over on the Mississippi River. Some people say they taste exactly like Egg Plant but I never acquired a taste for that either so I leave those guy's where I see them !
