Got my first batch* finished. When I pulled them out of sludge and rinsed them, I thought they looked good, but I was afraid to dry them. To my absolute delight, they looked great!!! *first batch: This was the first run with a real tumbler. I got a Rollingstones tumbler for Christmas a few years ago and the results were as you all well know I'm sure, complete crap. These would not have been possible without the lot of you taking time to post your methods, tips and experience here. The charlottegemandmineralclub.com photo tutorial was priceless. Anyway, thank you all very much! Without further ado, here are a few hand selected rocks, carefully arranged to hide flaws and reflect maximum light. Tumbler: Chicago electric. Grits: Lortone starter kit. Lessons learned: Sort by hardness lest you be left with little rocks. Pre shaping helps a ton. Crap rocks in -> crap rocks out.

They look great, awesome shine! Every time you can dry a rock and think it looks better than wet... It's a very hard feeling to describe. I'm glad this time around worked!

It is!
I need to learn to use the camera, I was so focused on trying to capture shine, I let the color get way out of whack.

Great work, the first "success" is such a thrill. Then it gets addicting.

well ya done did yourself a really nice job with those you have a grinder that you preformed with ? that would seem key Thanks! No grinder. Just a Harbor Freight tumbler. I think I paid $38 dollars for it with coupon, delivered. That has to be the best deal in rock tumbling. Great work, the first "success" is such a thrill. Then it gets addicting. Nice job on those. Now you get to do it again. Heh, Heh. Russ Ha ha, I didn't wait for success. I started with a crappy toy tumbler and then got a Harbor Freight tumbler. But, before that load finished, I bought a Thumlers AR2 and built my own 4 barrel tumbler.
