Well I won't lie the only reason I got into Gemstones and minerals in general was when i was younger me and my parents went to Gattlingburg TN. We went to a Pan your own gemstone place and I really enjoyed it. I dropped like $400 in the shop and walked out with bags and bags of unclean gemstones including some really nice Emerald, Sapphire and Ruby one of which i had cut and appraised at around $600 by a jewler in my home town. I live around 150 miles from the closest gem mines that i know of and don't really know where to look around where i DO live so i wanted to find some of the dirt these buisnesses buy and order it to my house the mystery of what could be in the bag is what draws me in. Just like when my sister pulled out a 300 carat Emerald brick is the only way to put it that she sold to the guy we bought the bucket from for $800.
Anyone know where I can buy some or If there is any sites out there that can tell me where i can go near my house to look for gemstones.

I know Rose Creek mine. It's owned by a guy named Tom, his children and wife are the only employees and they want you to have a great experience! Tom is the past president of the Franklin Gem Club and is very active in promoting the town as the Gemstone Capital of the world.

Never order the dirt online. He sells several options at the mine including native only. Of course the native has some salted stuff because they throw some really great rose, smoky and citrine on the pile just so you get a treat. There is a lot of facet grade there too!
