Awesome batch. I love the three in the 4th picture, what are they? I think I need to get myself some unakite, those are really pretty too. So is the one in the 5th pic.

Very nice mixed batch Chuck! Especially like the Unakite. What do you figure your Fordite is on the Mohs scale?

Andrea Thanks- The brown one at top right in the fourth photo is a jasper/rhyolite that Jugglerguy picked up from Lake Superior. The other two in that photo are unknown to me. Chuck

Great mixed batch, you are master. I am suprised at how well the fordite played with the others. Cheers

I think all of the rocks in the fourth picture (and maybe the fifth) are the rhyolite that I got from Lake Superior. They came out nice.
You didn't answer Bob's question about where Fordite falls on the Mohs scale. I was wondering the same thing. I'm surprised it tumbles.

You didn't answer Bob's question about where Fordite falls on the Mohs scale. I was wondering the same thing. I'm surprised it tumbles. I don't check anything for MOHS hardness. It all goes in 46-70 and if it survives it gets to move on. If it was too soft to survive 46-70 then it probably would not take a great shine anyway. I never expected the Fordite to last but its all saw scraps anyway so it was either toss it in the tumbler or throw it away. I will say that if I add too much of it in the barrel at a time it makes the slurry too thick for my liking. Probably more like that nasty red clay they have down south Chuck

It sounds soft then. When I tumble Petoskey stones in 80 grit, I double the water and the slurry still ends up really think. If I don't double the water, I get a pudding consistency after 3 days.

relevance? did you tumble that piece or just decide to post a picture off the internet here? Well I got sidetracked. Meant to find the MOHs hardness and came across this pic and decided to post it. Just a random post on my end

Great mixed batch again. I think I'll throw a few pieces of obsidian in my next batch after seeing so many of yours come out nice.
