Wow! You sure got a nice polish on the large one in the last picture. They sure have a rich (as in chocolate and caramel) look to them!

They're all that shiny, they just don't show it in the pictures.

Great looking batch Rob. In my opinion this material and Unakite are just about the best Michigan beach finds for making high quality tumbles. Lakers are the holy grail but it can take years of searching to get a whole batch of those.

I do find this stuff on other beaches, but it's not as nice and not as common as on this beach. So maybe there's another great rock out there that I haven't found yet that polishes this nicely. I'll just have to get out there and look some more.

Nice rocks Rob! With rocks like that that fracture on a line along the band's and are sorta round you cab knapp them. Just set them against a piece of wood with the line perpendicular to the wood and whack the top with a billet. You have to hold 5he stone on the wood. Your billet can be a piece of sandstone. It should split in half leaving you with 2 pieces that are flat on one side and domed on the other side. Makes very nice tumble cabs or you can do them and cab on a Genie etc. Or you can knapp and chip it into a point or knife real easy!

Those are really nice. I never thought I would like brown rocks.

Bill, I might give that a try on some of the larger ones I brought home. Now I just need to find a piece of sandstone. It's easy to find on Lake Superior, but I don't know if we have much around here.

Rob you can use a Osage orange club, moose horn bopper if that's easier to find! LOL. Sorry it was just such a good opportunity!
