I was at a little knap-in this weekend and there was a lapidary guy there. He had the neatest little hand faceters he had invented years ago and was demonstrating them. Of course I had to get one to bring home. It is a basic as you can get and takes about 8 times longer to facet than a regular machine. He was faceting little marble like gem balls into beautiful pieces. doc, don't be too hard on me if these things are crap. I had to get one buddy, I did. I am starting a quartz piece now and will post a pic if I ever get it faceted. Talk to you later, Don

It sounds like something a beginner might enjoy. Working on softer pieces to get the knack of it. Then the more difficult things may seem easier cause it doesn' take as long. Does that sound right to you?

Keep us posted on how that works don. Hubby would like to do some faceting but I can't see spending couple thousand right now on a machine. How much did you spend on this little machine?

Thats why I got one of these little guys. It was only $115. I've always been facetinated by faceting ;D. It is a cheap way to experiment and learn the terms and idea behind it. I realize it will only do so much and it is all hand work, but for the $ I couldn't resist. I got 8 facets done on the quartz piece so far, probably a solid 2 1/2 hours work, but it is lookin cool. I'll keep ya posted Otter.
