This will be the first ever Thanksgiving I spend completely alone. I am not sure whether to cook a turkey dinner just for me? Have any of you spent it alone? What did you do? Did you cook or just eat out? I love turkey and all the fixin's! Some times being single sucks!! Sheri

Sheri that terrible! That I've done many times One Thanksgiving I went to the laundromat At least thought it would be quiet & empty Wrong ! It was like doing my laundry in little Mexico Geez! I thought I was in a different country I guess Mexican illegals don't recognize turkey as food group Anyway Thanksgivings alone--- are just something every one should experience of course-- sorry that the case but it may tend to make future gathering more special if my brother hadn't just invited me I'd be at Q trip anyway your never truly alone on RTH

I like that idea but I figured I'd give the rocks a break from my company for a day

Back in my bachelor days I used to stuff the largest chicken I could find, and pretend it was a turkey. Some olives, a can of yams with marshmallows melted over them, Some mashed taters with chicken giblet gravy and a store bought pumpkin pie & I could eat like a king for 2 or 3 days.

You could cook a turkey breast, then use it for sandwiches. Baked sweet potato, etc. Sit in front of the TV and watch parades.
I have always said holidays and being sick sucked when you are single.

If there is a homeless shelter close by you could go help serve dinner. It's a little late to volunteer, though, as it seems this time of the year is when lots of people decide they need to help...the problem being the other days of the year need people helping, too, but I guess those days aren't as glamorous or something as the holidays. It wouldn't hurt to check into it, though, if you are so inclined. What has been said about going ahead and cooking on a small scale and eating well for a few days makes sense to me (one who likes to eat!). If nothing else, buy a couple of frozen turkey dinners and pop them in the microwave!!! Happy Thanksgiving to you and everyone!!!!!!! Even though we complain and gripe, we have much to be thankful about!!!!!!

don’t get the wrong impression I don’t mean to come off light or aloof about what is a sensitive situation for many peoples Holiday’s and aloneness Its no fun and challenging We all know that serious depression occur around the holidays In our hearts, even in the best of situations, we all need to find solace and thankfulness and something really good to eat

The quick clean up is a *major* plus!!!! We have a Bates House of Turkey a short piece from the house. Lots of folks go there and have Thanksgiving dinner...full course meal with all the fixin's...and leave the mess behind them. If they think they'll want a turkey sandwich the next day they'll order a couple of pounds of sliced turkey "to go".

I like a good Cornish Game hen. We are only two so I smoke the Turkey and roast hens for dinner. Sherri, I know you already know this, but is good for all of us to remember in these days. John 16:32-33 Behold, the hour is coming, indeed it has come, when you will be scattered, each to his own home, and will leave me alone. Yet I am not alone, for the Father is with me. I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”

Looks like it's going to be a " to cook " Thanksgiving this year. Of our parents, only my wifes mother is left, so we've invited her for dinner. Actually, we're springing her from the assisted living place where she's at. It may very well be her last Thanksgiving, so we decided to make it a good one for her. (Neither of her sons will do anything for their mother). So the bird is thawing in the fridge, & all the fixins are lined up on the counter ready for a busy morning.

My vote is to cook, no reason to be alone AND miss the great food.
Maybe there is somebody else in your boat that you can share a home cooked meal with. One Thanksgiving many years ago I was home early on Thanksgiving day due to complicated family arrangements. I was single and lived in the apartment under a single older lady. When I got home, we hung out for the evening and kept each other company. It's one of the only Thanksgivings I have real specific memories of.
