December 2015 Friendly Cab Contest /Challenge
This is a challenge to yourself... What is the best cab that you can create... posting the results of your creation.
Theme: Christmas and winter colors. Colors to choose from - green, blue, black, red, white, brown, yellow/gold. Winter / Christmas shapes are allowed (candycain, snowflake and others)
Rules: -
Cabs entered must be completed by the deadline (they can be started before the month). All entries will require a photo of the slab or rock, preform and finished cab. So no cabs pulled from the drawer.
You can enter as many photos of the finished cab as you like (within reason) on the same post. If you decide to add another photo later on, please edit your original post.
Things like intarsias, carvings, jewelry, and composite type cabs may not be entered (unless otherwise specified) in an effort to keep the contest somewhat fair by just entering free form style cabs. It is OK if there is a hole drilled in the item with or without a jump ring, as long as there is no extras on the rock (wire, chord, etc.)
We ask that all entries submitted to this contest be unique to this competition (not submitted in several different competitions). any duplicates will not be included in the voting list.
Feel free to share with us what ever you like about the material, the process or what ever else you would like to share.
Also, don't forget to include the name of the material.
If a tie occurs in the voting the breaker will be whoever submitted the finished item first.

Had this idea using local flowerstone , the small feldspar crystals looked to me like snow flakes. This my first double sided cab . Going to hang it from our X-mas tree. the rough stone
Cut and pre-shape.
Finish shape. Best polish I got , a soft stone
Thanks for looking , Merry Christmas .....................................Gary

Nice cab you got there.
Say, Candy-cane and snowflake? does that mean outlines only, or can more be done with it?

Nice cab you got there. Say, Candy-cane and snowflake? does that mean outlines only, or can more be done with it? If you can imagine it and its Christmas themed its acceptable as long as it follows the rules Carlton originally created.. but as long is it is made from 1 stone and can be created or replicated with a cabbing machine i'd say that your within the rules. If you do want to do something that is different, you can pm me your idea and I can see how to best fit in for the theme if needed. Those are just 2 examples of different thinks someone might not think of right away.

Whaa, 9 days to go and only one entry? Ok, lets make that some form of contest. My cab comes from an unknown (to me) material. Nice winter-scape, I think, front and back, can't decide which is better. Thanks for looking, Kurt

My cab machine is back from the dead!!! It's running a little more smoothly now, though I'm still having a problem with uneven finishes with the refurbished soft wheels. I think the 280 soft and/or the 600 has some high spots that are creating deep gouges that are getting polished over. Anyways it feels so great to be able to turn out a cab in a matter of many minutes instead of many hours. Gotta thank my sweetie for being such a great champ with helping me fix it (he did most of the work.) I chose this because it looks exactly like a tree in a snow storm. Preform was courtesy of marinedad. The original oval had some rotten agate on the left side, so I wanted to trim it smaller. My freehand ovals need work though. Polished but bumpy...like the surface of snow? You can even see little snowflakes when backlit!

This cab is from an Ankara agate from Turkey. It is my Christmas eve cab I didn't remember to take a picture of the slab and preform, but I did take a photo of the other half of the nodule I cut it from. The other half nodule Cab on nodule showing polish Cab Cab in full sunlight Cab in indoor direct lighting, with dust and fingerprints =\ It was a nice stone to work with but took longer than normal to grind and polish, but worth it. It took a beautiful polish

Well this isn't the stone I was originally wanting to make, but the original stone is still lost in a bucket someplace . I made this lace agate / jasper for someone that wanted to gift it to someone. The people just got a new house in NV and this rock came off the land. I forgot all about getting a picture before drilling a hole but here is what it looks like.

Roger, the polish on your stone is incredible! Your framing is really sweet, too - I really like how the angularity of the kite shape complements the geometric forms.

I was fortunate that it was a nice piece of stone and very hard. Shaping and doming was a bugger but it polished like a dream
