Hello, everyone.
With all the rocks I've gathered lately, keeping them listed is a must. So I've been thinking at a table, please let me know if you have any comments/improvements.
In my opinion, the table should have the following columns (sorry, I don't know to insert tables). After the * sign I gave an example for each column:
- Number (Code) * W0001 - Name * Druzy Pet Wood - Geographical area * Texas - Geological age * ? - Date of purchase * Summer 2007 - Source * trade with Curt - Other observations * Astonishing specimen
For labeling the rocks, my idea is "painting" them on a very small surface (5 mm x 10 mm) with corrector liquid and then writing the code with a thin permanent marker.
What do you think about it? Thanks in advance for any comments and improvements.
Adrian

;D ;D a easier way is to just get two boxes and put "pretty" on one and "ugly" on the other ! ;D ---- everything else can just be " I don't know's/remember" ;D ![::)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/eyesroll.png)

I have a friend that keeps a log. Every time he rockhounds he enters the material and source in his log. He numbers the rocks with a sharpie so he can look them up later. I thought he was a nut until I moved from my house and a lot of my stuff got mixed up. I now have a lot of "Misc. Jaspers, Misc. Agates, etc."

My dad's collection was labeled, with little tiny round stick on dots. He numbered each rock, and had a master list with all the info, such as Adrian suggested. Unfortunately, guess what is missing, after 30 years? ![???](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/huh.png) Yep, the list.... most of his rocks still have their little numbers, but a lot of good that does! Maybe someday we will find the list, but I'm not holding my breath.

Hmmm, never thought of getting that technical with my "collections" but then again, mine is not really that massive yet to warrant it either. Makes perfect sense if you're buying & selling though, to have something keep track of what you paid, where it came from etc... ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)
