Took a Thanksgiving trip to California to have Thanksgiving with the Wife's family. Been high grading a rock pile there for years, got this piece this year. Have no idea as to what it is but thought it looked neat. Probably why it was picked up 40 years ago.

I'm scared of it. Something bad is inside of it.

Reminds me of "Aliens" ... but, ditto on other comments. would be really interested to see what's inside. You could do a "windowing cut" and trim off a small portion on one side oriented as you have the rock in the second picture. That might give you an idea of which way to do a larger cut. Not sure if that made sense. LOL.

That thing's goofy. Love it. I say cut that abomination and show us what lurks inside! Which way would be the best way to cut it? The best way would be to clamp it to maximize the slabs. Sawing by hand, I would cut it 45 degrees to the layers on the rock. That's a really nice agate. Keep, looking at it until you figure out what you think is the best angle. I usually just keep looking at them and turning them in my hands until I figure out which is the best way to cut them. Don't get in a hurry. It's not going anywhere.

I thought about not cutting it at all, but I did anyway. Whatever it is it sure is fractured. I think I will seal the cracks and polish it and keep as a conversation piece. Like I need more

woodman I'm glad you cut it. Instructive to see the inside and the outside in one chunk. Thanks.
