Joejansal I have used a sharpened soapstone pencil line with my trim saw . This might wash off ? with water flowing over your piece. Give it a try...................Gary

I haven't used this, but it's what a friend of mine uses all the time to mark stones. It's a DecoColor Extra Fine opaque paint marker. She uses a yellow one.

I have used a silver marking pen with a tip that marks about one sixteenth inch on dark stone with good results. My slabs are trimmed using a mineral oil and the marks are easily visible until the oil gets mucked up.

Keep a lookout when you are driving around for electricity linesmen, overhead electricity cables are Aluminium, ask nicely and I'm sure they will have a cable offcut they could spare, peel it down to individual wires and sharpen one to a point, instant stone marking pencil, much better than pencils or sharpies and will not wash off. Another source is metal shops that do TIG welding, they always have plenty of the end bits of TIG wire. Aluminium will not mark on polished stones though, it relies on lodging bits of metal in the rough surface. Another option is bronze brazing wire

I have TIG scraps and brazing wire ends, mostly use the aluminum but sometimes the yellow brass shows up better.

If the wife don’t work in a bucket truck or a welding shop, just ask her for a knitting needle.
