I can't remember what his name is - he's a photographer who takes close-up pictures of rocks - can anyone post his web address (I wanted to make a small business card & was wondering if I could cut/paste it as a background)
thanks in advance

If that is the site that you are looking for please do not use the images unless you purchase them first. Copyright is a very sensitive subject among photographers.

Thanks, hobopuppy, for bringing that up; also a sensitive subject anymore with newspapers and magazines. I work at a newspaper, and we can't legally publish senior pix, nor engagement pix, nor wedding pix, without a release from the photographer. Anyone with those picture issues should ask the photographer what their policy is. Sometimes, they release the pix for free. Sometimes, they want $$ to release. Sometimes, all they want is a photo credit. But, please don't take your studio photo down to the local newspaper, and ask them to scan and publish. It could cause some real problems! Sorry to say, folks, the photographed subject is not the 'owner' of their own photos. K

True and photographers can't legally do anything with shots of someone without a written consent. Details, details!

Well that helped, so now I must ask, if I'm getting a picture off ebay of something that I bought off that seller, can I use that instead?
one seller had an amazing piece of plume that makes an amazing background...

Depends. Did he take the picture? Did he give permission to reproduce?

OK Let's find Tweetiepy a legal background. This one a bit dull, the slab is beautiful - much better than the picture shows -, but unpolished. Free use given. Let's see some more.

Bill has some great pics, however..... dot dot dot......
I seriously think that people like us can do FAR better.
For example - I wouldnt use any pics there or steal from him because I can do great closeups with a 50$ camera on macro - let alone the new slr ive got.
Sorry - but bill is in the competetive world like the rest of us - he knows it for sure.
Rule of thumb - dont steal - just do better.
