This is not the first time that synthetic diamonds harder than natural diamonds have been made. Years ago scientists made synthetic diamonds using buckyballs (Buckminsterfullerenes)that were harder than naturally occurring diamonds.

It will be cut the same way 10 Mohs diamonds are cut: by using diamond powder of the same hardness as the abrasive. Diamond-cutting is a s-l-o-w process. Actually, using this new material as a powdered abrasive might speed up cutting 10 Mohs stones a bit.

Hoping some corp doesn't lock it all up like moissanite.

No I haven't Scott but I know a bit about the diamond trade. I'm acquainted with quite a few dealers and cutters. Diamond-cutting requires much different equipment and processes than used for faceting most transparent colored gems. It even uses a different vocabulary: cleaving, bruting, grain, scaife, tang etc. There was a faceting machine manufacturer in Santa Monica a few years ago who claimed his machine could cut both diamonds and colored stones but I haven't heard anything about it in a long while.
