Yup, that's our USPS. A couple years ago a package coming to me in S.D. from Utah went all the way to the Domican Republic. Sat there for a week, and finally traveled another week back up to S.D.

No, this has to be a joke. Priority Mail has a 70 pound limit and no Priority package could cost anything near $110 postage within that radius.
I have microscope parts coming through the SF center about now, so I hope the delay was also either a joke or an aberration. Although I've had a couple of misdirected USPS packages over the years, I've thankfully had only 1 damage loss claim out of thousands of USPS packages (the one that needed a claim was more a scam on the part of the sender to get money both from me and insurance from USPS, and I was allowed to reverse the charge). Almost all arrive in great shape, clean and very quickly. FedEx has done a great job on time-sensitive, but their ground service isn't any faster than USPS and I don't send enough to qualify for their pickup service. UPS is worst for me - expensive and almost everything arrives looking like its been dragged around a rodeo arena (not sure why) and also not enough volume to justify pick up service.

I am a big fan of FedEx home delivery for items too big for a flat rate box, but not if it's time sensitive. At work I had vendors ship next day early AM for parts to repair equipment on 2 occasions. First time it finally showed up at quitting time, 2nd time it was over 24 hours late. On both occasions many thousands of dollars were lost by my employer and the customer who received his drop dead emergency product late. UPS is more reliable but you pay dearly for it, and bulky items tend to arrive damaged if you don't package in bulletproof boxes.

That was funny. I know everyone loves to poke fun and complain about the PO, but over the many years that I have relied on them, they have almost always come through for me with flying colors. Very, very few problems. (I'm probably jinxing myself right now.) All of my mail carriers have always put my packages inside my screen door and onto my porch. I always try to give something to my regular carrier at Christmas because I do everything via Amazon Prime anymore. I really work delivery people. I like them to know I appreciate it. How many of y'all remember when the standard line was 6-8 weeks for delivery? The mail really did used to be ridiculously slow. I'd say it has improved a bit.

I've had very good luck with the USPS over the years with three exceptions: a stolen stone and two very late Priority deliveries from CA to NJ. There's something about Jersey...
The other bugaboo of mine is Registered mail. I use it when my shipment is high-value and needs lots of insurance, plus the security of being placed in a locked cage at night. Some go through pretty fast but I sold a very expensive stone recently going from CA to NYC. It took nearly 2 weeks! My customer was NOT happy and neither was I.

The USPS Flat Rate program seems to work pretty well most of the time. It's better than the old days. The carriers must hate most of us rock guys.

They smile at me and say "More rocks?" Small and medium flat rate boxes don't rattle them. - Now the large . . .

Never an issue with USPS...Only had one problem with a priority box-it was a large box from Montana, full of Montana moss, looked like a tornado hit it! Hand delivered to my door in a crate...The postal driver asked me if I wanted to put a damage claim on it....Told her to hang on a few minutes and looked at the weight of the rock I was suppose to get, went to my shop, grabbed the scale, weighed the rocks and it came out right on the money-told her it was good and not her fault... She was a happy person after that, started bringing my heavy boxes to the house, instead of the mailbox......
My youngest son worked for UPS,as a night loader-told me,that if the boxes weren't packaged up right by sender, they weren't going to make it to the destination.....They have an alotted time to load out the trks and its fast and not easy on the packages.......
As for Fed-Ex,I had a few boxes delivered from Montana Madman, from Don and himself.......I reimbursed Bob for the shipping, about knocked my socks off with the prices they charged....Tripled over what USPS charged... Bob was in a pickle and was bob tailing with his semi,so he had to do what was best for shipping....( surprised him too!! LOL )
So all in all,USPS has my business....................

Honestly, I've never had any problems with USPS. I'm consistently impressed that they manage to supply the level of service that they do, for the cost of their services. That being said, the people who work there are human like everyone else, so some folks are going to have a good rapport and excellent service while other people might fall through the cracks. This, at least, was a particularly eloquent and funny complaint.
I wonder if he ever got a turtle. "Slow and steady wins the race"?
