Collected on a half acre gravel creek bar on private property in a gravel mining district. Mostly quartz and quartzite, quartzite with tiny sparkles. Thanks for putting me on this area broseph82.... Those are looking really nice Jim, all of these are from broken cobbles, right? I'm not seeing the fractures as I see it the smaller gravel pieces. I hope I can get back to the hunting ground and get some cobbles to work with before long. I really need the fresh air...and rocks. You know, when I gaze into these rocks it's like I'm looking back in time...way back in time.

I sure do like the colors in this batch. You probably love how quick they get through stage one compared to your corals.

Wew, thought the quartzies were gonna get swept under the rug. Lots of the richer colors come in flat plates about slab thickness as Intheswamp Ed will attest. Yes Chuck, it did grind fast, BUT, it polished easy with good ole R.Shed AO 500 and sugar, did not even do the final Borax. After coarse, SiC 220 2 days, then AO 500 four days all in vibe. I was getting sensitive but you guys boosted me enough to take Tom's razzing. Yep, really careful doing the chipping Ed, broke a lot of those small cobbles often only getting one good not fractured chunk or chip per cobble. The smaller the pebble the better the color in many of them. Pretty sure the color leaches in on smaller ones from that yellow water. So much of this stuff passes light well. It would take a fair amount of grinding to get rid of the white impact frosted rind and surface fractures. The fractures show as white and do not look good. I must say that the natives made arrows out of quartzite. I find their chips in the TVA mountain lakes at low water that are very unusual. Colors, bands and most striking is the bigger flakes of mica that make serious glitter. Never can find those rascals source rock. cobbledstones, I will pick some of the flatter pieces and send them to you to try your beads. Now that they are tumbled I can see cracks and can be assured that you can sure polish this stuff.

Nice stuff, kind of gets some different colors, doesn't it? Russ The salmon color range is by far the most common.

Nobody likes my quartzite ? Nice and shiny, nice colors, but I like the variety of your coral, better. Besides, we have quartzite out here, not so your suthen' coral.
I know, you worked hard on it just the same. Bang up job on that, James! Beautiful!

Why didn't the Rio flow on to GA and dump all those jewels over here ? Calling for another earth disturbance so just such will happen. Hi jacking my own thread here - Bought another metal bender to make handles out of steel rod last night. Getting a headache trying to figure out 15,000 combinations of dies and hole positions for such. Made in China instructions and laughing at the grammar. Engineers absolute morons when it comes to practical tool like this. 1" die in #2 hole on A, 2" die in #3 hole on B, bending block in #3 position 7 dies, 2 bending blocks with several positions each, 2 sets of 7 holes I think the permutations and combinations is 7! + 2! + 7! + 7!, or something like that. 7!=7 X 6 X 5 X 4 X 3 X 2 X 1 = 5,040 if you catch my drift. All I want to do is make some handles out of 5/8 steel rod. Ha, they listed that one as a practice bend, spelled it out, illustrated it, and it is still whipping me. not my photo, but you see the problem

Hmmm, engineers bad enough. Engineers that think in another language, look out! Have been ridiculed for such. But have been able to grab the welder or wrench and show out well. Do as I do and not as I say. Otherwise you have no business being in management. Do not care for management that has not 'been there done that'. Dreading that dang bender. Got to weld it in a removable fashion to the floor. whining here.. Getting ready to try this kid out for a helper, he is married to a gal at the freight co. I use. He and her are playing Monoply in photo, looks intense

That looks great, jamesp , glad you were able to figure it out! Devices such as that can make life a lot easier. About time you hired a new worker. Get the young kids to do the grunt work, save on the old body, lol.

Get the young kids to do the grunt work, save on the old body, lol. In 30 minutes it made 12 pairs. Basically paid for itself that fast. Did the 1/2 rod like butter, 5/8 started to challenge it(or me). The kids, if they show up yes it will help the old body. If they don't, it enhances the aging process. Candler lasted 12 years. At age 30 he finally got his chef hood and is cooking for a fancy restaurant. Will be hard to replace that one. He would have never passed the drug test, but he was a great worker and punctual. He is missed.

Nice Quartz. I like the sparkly stuff. It gets better when the mica flakes are bigger and more numerous.
