Well, due to recent events, I haden't had time to turn off my rock tumbler or clean it out for 3 weeks. I only had initial 80 grit in for course grind with slurry from my last batch. This will be an interesting cleanout

We often do coarse for a month, changing it after the first week then letting the 2nd batch break down and become medium/fine grit. After that we go straight to prepolish on all but the hardest rock.

You should have no problem other than smoother rocks. Look at them and decide how to proceed.

ditto, unless it is glass or obsidian, I've let my barrels roll for 3-4 weeks without checking them.

I run my Obsidian for two + weeks on every cycle..............On most rock,I think the longer you run a cycle ,the better.................

I'll be cleaning out hopefully tomorrow. With my old tumbler running at 15 rpm I had to tumble for 2 weeks... with this one it runs at 30 rpm so it tumbles in half the time... so I have essentially 6 weeks of tumbling.

For Mohs 7 stones at 27 RPM or 35 RPM SiC 30 grit is like 80 grit in 2-3 days in my barrels. Probably 220 after 5-6 days. Then 400 after 12-14 days.
After two weeks in the last SiC 30 charge they go in the vibe with AO 500 and come out darn shiny. May do a polish after that.
Telling that even very coarse SiC breaks down well in the rotary.

most of the stones were ready for pre-polish, only a few need to go back to rough grind. I'm starting to clean my last batch of old tumbled stones finally
