First of all I want to say this is a great site to get a grip on Rock Tumbling. I have been tumbling for about a year now a lot of information I have gleaned has been from this site. I must say I did learn a lot by trial and error (like what tumbler not to buy). My wife sort of got me started (she started making natural stone/gemstone jewelry) sooooo tumbling and cutting stone (lapidary) has become a large hobby (almost, but not quite all consuming). And I must say my wood shop is getting taking over with rock/stone/equipment etc....
So Hello and Thank you for all the help in the past and the help I will need in the future.

Fossilman, here is a pic to start out with. I know they are not tumbled or cut. I managed to pic them up from an estate. I just love this stuff. About 30 lbs or so. So imaging a pic of a Box of Blue Lace Agate all rough fist size chunks... I will have to get an account (photobucket) or something. The forum has exceeded its attachment allotment and I am unable to attach an image.. buggers.

They like to pick on engineers, maybe a union is needed. Welcome to the forum from Georgia.

I think jamesp was talking about me, but someone who has an engineering degree and still can operate a slab saw and build a tumbler that actually works can't be all bad. Welcome to the forum. I am particularly curious about the Hilquist Klimax Machine, so far I've only seen their saws.

LOL, they stuck me in management too. Had a complex about it, thinking they considered me better kept away from the design table. Rockoonz, please keep me between the lines.

Trust me I looked. linkgoo.gl/photos/Je7hEakk8MkuHs4x7One of these will work. Sorry I have not posted a whole lot. We at least not since these were all bbs boards and 2400 baud was all the rage .

Thank you.... I have moved on to Project Management .....but I still get picked on....So not a bid deal They probably wanted to keep you away from the drill press! Welcome. I Started in the trenches and was a Field Service Engineer for many years.....So I am a rare Engineer that gets to play with tools.....They even let me own them. (that took some convincing) Thank you for the Welcome. (TotH) (Tip of the Hat)

Hmmm, maybe that should be a clue to me.. Never though of it that way. May have to look in to that. But I don't remember any specific incident that might have led to them benching me. (Wheels are now turning). Oh well I was not overly fond of the trips to the paper mills and the waste water treatment plants anyway. (I still go to those places, just for way shorter periods of time).

Hands on engineer too. Keeps you away from the dreaded desk job... Sounds like they put you in a leadership position with other technical folks. Sounds like they promoted you based on technical prowess.
Paper biz eh ? Fourdrinier wire and press felt manufacturing here. Giant looms, cards, needling machines. Atlanta Wire and Atlanta Felt, I think Albany bought them out.
Paper machines are monsters. As is their effluents.

I used to work at a paper mill until I got tired of huffing fumes & lime dust. A very dangerous environment. nasty smelly stuff... had to toss a good backpack because the smell would not go away. Mansfield, LA papermill....nasty stuff

Atlanta Felt had about 30 brand new felts in warehouse. They were spares and became obsolete. Ave cost $30,000 each. So I had a freight truck pick them up and delivered to farm. Had to spread about 1.5 acres of gravel for my plant nursery. Laid those felts down as geotextile and put 3 inches of gravel on them. 25 years ago. Gravel still mud free and never gets pot holes in it. Keeps fire ants and ground born insects out of my plants. Also incorporated it in dam overflows. So floods do not wash the backside of the dam away( leading to dam failure). Got 4 creeks and many dams for the aquatic nursery. That arrangement was a dam saver.

The land fills do not take felts, they are notorious for derailing the tracks on their bulldozers.
