I got about 20 pounds of this material yesterday at a pawn shop and wanted to see how it was to work with. I did not cherry pick at all I just grabbed a piece that I could cut a quick slab on the trim saw. The material is nice and solid and takes a great polish. After a little research I think the Australian dendritic opal I.D. is correct but if anyone has a different opinion please let me know. Thanks for looking Chuck

Beautiful. Very inspired photo showing the contrast between the cab and the rough rock.

Nice cab. Dendritic Opal, also called Opalite from Western Australia around Norseman. I have self collected this stuff it comes in grey, green, yellow, white, red,it can come in opaque like in the photo and transparent often all in the same stone and it varies greatly in its quality. Some of it is like a lot of opal in that it dries out and crumbles. Its beautiful if you can get a piece to hold together long enough to make a cab but sooo frustrating to be shaping or polishing a really nice piece and suddenly have two pieces. When that happens it often has other names as well.
