Ok,have been watching and learning about wire wrapping from the forum and some of my hounding buddies.... Are there any good Companies out there that carry good products to buy for this hobby...Of course I know there is,but I want to go straight to the good Companies and get great results and not buy junk (if you know what I mean)..LOL Thinking of trying my hand at wrapping for my winter project....Better than watching TV or other things... I know there is a good Company in southern Oregon that carries wrapping supplies, but the name slips me... Thank you for any tips....

I think the company you are thinking of is called Fire Mountain Gems. They do carry some wire wrapping wire, but 2 better places are parawire and Rio Grande for inexpensive wire to start out with. Wishing you good luck with your new endeavor. Myra

Just for getting started you could try any half decent craft supply place, Hobby Lobby or Michael's - get some soft square wire and some soft half round. If you look at the wire tut by Bikerrandy that should get you pretty far along. These cheaper craft stores will have copper wire plated in bronze, silver, brass etc (for color only) but those are cheaper to learn with.

We get our wire from Rio Grande. Fire mt. is fine for beads and findings but not so much for anything else.

Rio has copper wire by the pound spool. It will last forever. You can do a helluva lot with pure copper wire. I wouldn't mess with the coated wire, especially as a beginner - it's too easy to mar the wire. In fact, I prefer the Swanstrom brand tools which Rio carries, too. Expensive, but worth it, I think.

I agree with Rio Grande as being a good place to get wire. I buy all my wire from them. Fast shipping and great customer service. And, no this is not a paid advertisement (I wish...lol)

Good luck with your wrapping. Will be nice to see some new blood posting in the new year. I use RIO for 90 percent of my wire and I do get my main 20 gauge square and round copper wire from there but they do not have half round in the gauge I use plus I do not need a pound of half round so I use wirejewelry.com for that.(formerly wiresculpture.com) www.wirejewelry.com/jewelry-wire-1.htmlChuck
