The screen brightness goes way down after a few seconds when I open threads. I have no issues like this on other forums, or the internet in general, just here on RTH. Anyone else have this happen? I have checked every setting I can think of and nothing I can spot that would cause this frustrating problem

Interesting. Did you check with the moderators? Hasn't happened here.

radio, my guess is one of the ads - or an unintentional browser add-in you might have - is trying to pop an ad or something over the page. If you don't mind losing history, when your browser is open, hit the Control Key, while holding it down, also press the shift key, and with both of them still down hit the Delete key. Most PC browsers will give you options at that point of what you want to clear. I'd say to clear everything for all time, but you might want to keep your "remembered" log in information and history. What I'd say at minimum is to delete images and cookies, that might resolve the issue. The reason is that if a page loaded a script to popover once it might be stuck and keep trying to reload that script.

I had already tried clearing cache, cookies and history to no avail, but did it again with no change. Forgot to mention at times the screen will brighten while scrolling down a page, then darken again with no pattern that that I can figure out. A very weird and annoying problem!

on my laptop at work the screen will go dark but brighten after I hit any key
I assume its because the laptop is set to go to asleep after 15 minutes
not suggesting that your problem but might be another thing to look into
don't think its the site so when you figure it out lets us geeks know...
