With a 1750 pound trailer axle spindle and a wheel bolted to a 36 inch tank end for a base. Fire pit bowls are lifted using prototype handles and set on wheel for thorough edge grinding and external/internal buffing. Have part time helper, he grinds and buffs whilst I weld at another station. Hand grinder and buffer serve as the rotational force.

Does that spin while being ground? Video? Yes John. Rotation transferred from the grinder or wire brush buffer. The edge is pretty rough and needs a good bit of grinding. I should do a video but the sound may have to be turned down; best to wear ear protection.

Does that spin while being ground? Video? X2 Is it upside dowwn? Not upside down. A tank end is set down on the wheel Scott, open side up. So the curved bottom of the bowl sits in the wheel. It is easy to move those bowls when upside down onto a flat work table. But hard to set them up high on that wheel with the curved side down.(nothing to grab) One man on each side with those lifting handles for each man and the bowl can be raised and set down on the wheel. Some of the 48 inch bowls weigh 250 and are deep, so they have to be lifted pretty high to set them down in the wheel. Looking forward to trying it out, worker coming Tuesday.

Will a photo do ? No. OK. I may. If my worker is OK w/being filmed I will catch him in action.
I ran a 30 inch bowl off on it. Loved it. Ordered another spindle to make more work stations.

Is the bowl in the pic a part of the table? Or is that bowl being worked?

Foget it. Its a base for the trailer spindle. Im thick! Lol Not thick, it is a peculiar use of a spindle. Yes, a base for the spindle. Why didn't I say it that way ? Well put. A heavy duty lazy susan. Made another flat top rotating table that was much more complicated. The spindle is compact, cheap, strong, short, did the trick. Don't know many welders that use a rotary table. works on a lot of stuff and saves moving your self or the work piece around constantly.

I like the concept, would love to see a pic of your handlers in action to see how they fit on the bowl to lift it. Have a miniature lazy susan on my soldering bench I use for pieces that require lots of heat, easy to move and keep flame in one place.

Moving workpiece and not the flame. the workpiece has no tubes or wires attached unlike torch. easy to rotate. Easier on wrists...'Vertical lathe'

toiv0 @shotgunner herchenxNew worker spit out 15 bowls in 4 hours. Going to modify height to higher more comfortable work position. He did nice job. He did mostly 36 inch bowls and was simply picking them up and setting them on the wheel by hand.

reminds me of 'bead spinning' a way to hand make individual beads in stone by using the action of the grinding wheel to spin the bead on a mandrel. The process keeps everything round. Same principle just a larger scale. Cool idea.

He's pretty fast, but is he good? If'n he wasn't, bet you wouldn't say anything - 'cause he's packin', ya know?
Still, it means you don't have to do it. Hiring an able-bodied youth is the ticket, James!
