toiv0 @shotgunner herchenx New worker spit out 15 bowls in 4 hours. Going to modify height to higher more comfortable work position. He did nice job. He did mostly 36 inch bowls and was simply picking them up and setting them on the wheel by hand.
He's pretty fast, but is he good? If'n he wasn't, bet you wouldn't say anything - 'cause he's packin', ya know?
Still, it means you don't have to do it. Hiring an able-bodied youth is the ticket, James!
He worked four times in the past two weeks. All four were winners, great worker. Big tall muscular fellow. Always has that gun strapped. big time prepper and a gunsmith. Gunsmith skills made him an instant on the grinder. Also taught him to use a torch today. Had him cut a bunch of pipe. We will go at it again tomorrow. Me impressed Jean. I met his wife at the freight company and she asked if I needed part time help. So it happened.

@shotgunner, Paul works at a gun range that has a bar and restaurant. Mind you, no shooting after any drinks. New concept club. His ear muffs have electronic controls that allow low level sound and block high level sound similar to a welding helmet that auto blocks intense light.
ever heard of such ?

Yes, those earmuffs have been around awhile. I'm on my second pair! Great for the range cuz conversation work and gunshots muffled. Never wear a welding mask while shooting.

How about a bulletproof welding mask when walking the streets of SW Atlanta.
That gun club/bar arrangement has a computer entry door to the shooting range that keys with your credit card that must be used to buy alcohol. If you bought a drink/s prior that day, the door to the range will not open.

What happens if you use your wife's credit card? (other than getting beat with an heirloom dish towel)

Never wear a welding mask while shooting. Hmm, it actually might be handy...all those muzzle flashes in certain areas of Hotlanta might be a bit blinding...

excellent set up james internal grinding excellent work ! Between yesterday and today there was a gallon of steel filings and grinding wheel debris Ed. May be senior grinder over the Edmost these days. Paul said his hands were still buzzing the next morning; those 12,000 RPM grinders can vibrate intensely.

yes james I'm moved up on the grit scale hey james what do you think of my signature petosky heart? I made it a long time ago & re-worked it but there nothing I can do about getting the joint line off those cells had a seismic shift petoskies will take a little more finessing to get the cut right ...

I thought it was Indonesian coral mohs. I suppose you could make the heart out of a single slab.(a first for Ed ?) Or saw the slab in half and rejoin it at the cut to get those polyps to line up. Have you ever glued the halves together with a piece of flat metal between them ? The metal could fill the kerf of the saw blade.

Thanks for the i.d., james ! your exactly right the material is lot harder than petosky
I thought of that idea with the metal but then a metal plate of some sort would have to cover the back of the heart, I think
single stone cut hearts? done very few and they present their own challenges I would need a way to drill a hole efficiently tough to do I would imagine
there is an art to grinding a heart and I still haven't got all the bugaboos smoothed out but we grind on toward that perfect heart in the sky
thanks for the I/D james! next cut will be better....

Awesome video!! State of the art cool! Next question James-"ARE YOU HARD OF HEARING" ? When the big grinder starts smoothing the edge the bowl starts to ring at some crazy sound pitches. It becomes a problem because the bowl vibration causes the grinder to bounce and makes bouncy grind marks. It's just like a gong but keeps gonging. And if you are looking down in or near the bowl the vibration is like a funny car, you feel it in your chest and teeth. By adjusting the approach of the grinding wheel you can keep it from setting up that dang vibration. I usually wear hearing protection. Grinding that bowl is loud no matter how you do it.
