SO, I'm planning on doing the rough shaping and pre-polishing on a bunch of turquoise cabs up to 600 grit, all by hand. Then I want to finish polish them in a vibe tumbler. Any advice on which grit and how long? I'm thinking 3000, and maybe 2 hours? just want to polish, not shape, round, or anything else. Thanks!

Go with a dry tumble Phil. 25% stones by volume and 75% ground corn husks. It is the most gentle way to tumble. Jugglerguy does soft petosky stones this way. I did a run like it with other types of soft stones and about the same ratio. I even polished short sections of bamboo this way. I never got a wet shine but definitely improved the shine. I used 14,000 polish, I should have ran them in 1000 first. Which had to effect the final polish.

I've never done turquoise, but Petoskey stones are Mohs 3 and I've had pretty good success with dry tumbling.

Zam on a 6 inch hard felt buffing wheel makes a great polish, but I usually take mine to 1,200 or 3,000 on the Cab King first

Thanks. trying to get a nice "wet" finish without doing them all by hand.
