My wife and I were in Chicago last month to see the Carole King musical Beautiful (GREAT show!!). We stayed at the Gwen a block off Michigan Ave. Great hotel, but the most amazing part was the bar. Didn't drink anything, but I fell in love with the bar top. Check it out!! Pretty impressive!! Thanks---Steve

That is cool. Was it backlit? Covered in epoxy resin?

Very cool. One would figure that a bar top would have to be pretty durable with the abuse they can take. Have to be something that wouldn't get scratched up. Figure epoxy would be tough enough Rob?

I'm pretty sure that epoxy is used for a lot of bar tops. It will definitely get scratched though.

That is cool. Was it backlit? Covered in epoxy resin? It is back-lit. Anybody visiting Chicago should check it out...

Anybody can have that! It is a chinese product and is marketed thru the granite countertop channels. Very high end. Like $100-$150 a square foot.

Maybe we could make our own if there is a product that wouldn't get all scratched up.

Very timely post. My wife and I are going to Chicago tomorrow and seeing Beautiful Saturday. I have been at that bar before when it was the conrad hilton but do not remember that bar top. It must have gotten renovated when the hotel changed hands. I'll have to check it out but I assure you I will have a drink Bill

I hope you enjoy it as much as we did. With regards to the bar, yes, that is the old Conrad Hilton. Not sure how it was set up before, but now you enter street level and have to the take the elevator up to the fifth floor to check in at the lobby. That is where the bar is also. That was the only negative regarding our stay there. We had to take an elevator down from our room, walk across the lobby (past the bar) and then take another elevator down to the entrance. Doing that repeatedly was a bit of a pain. Hope you enjoy your stay and post a picture of yourself sitting at the bar! Thanks---Steve

Was wondering if you could put a thin scratch-resistant layer of class over the completed resin-table? Or set the rocks up-side-down on top the glass and then pour the resin over it all. But then might have a problem with bubbles. Ah, I only need time and more money to try these things LOL
