I have a friend who is a gem dealer and gemologist. Every once in a while he puts a parcel for sale that is too good to pass up. I bought this just before we knew we were buying a new house (and have since put a spending freeze in place until all the deals are done on the house. Anyhow, somehow I was involved in a gem thread recently and thought I'd share this since I just got these and am pretty happy with the batch. From the left - morganite, tanzanite, 3 sapphires (2 heat treated and one is bicolor) and 2 aquamarines.

Incredible! Now you have to find a jeweler who will give you batch-pricing on mounting those. We see beautiful gemstones. Our wives see two pairs of ear rings and three necklace pendants.

Nice John! What are you going to do with them? You know, I never have a plan. A couple years ago I made some peridot and aquamarine earrings with a matching pendant in sterling from findings from Rio Grande (they are on here somewhere). I always think "someday I'll learn how to set these" but in reality I just think they are cool and look awesome. What I'd love to do is find a nice way to display them and keep them in a safe but pull them out to look at them from time to time. I have ballpark knowledge of the values of most of my gems so I keep in the back of my mind that I could sell some if I ever really needed cash. Some are worth quite a bit, but I always wait to buy way under value so my collection is modest and very slow growing.

I keep mine in gem jars in a tray. But, most of them, the good ones, I took out of the tray and put in a safe. I was just looking through my Kingsley North catalog and saw these, too. gem box There is also a little stand that has 3 claw arms that you cinch the stone down into which is a very nice display for a cabinet. I like to pull mine out now and again to look at. I have used some small ones with snap sets to incorporate into wraps.

I think we can all agree that we need to see a photo of your gem jars and tray I do have a bunch of those little boxes in trays now that you mention it. I picked them up from the Buena Vista gem show last year I think. I have cheap faceted smoky topaz and cheap garnets in them, I have them in my "giveaway to kids" rock stuff. When friends with kids come over I have a shelf of quartz points, polished ammonites, nautilus, amethyst, peridot rough and fluorite as well as some tumbles I like to send the kids home with. A lot of time mom and dad take some too
