I randomly picked a nice round and bumpy thunderegg. So I did an end cut and saw this This was on the end cut as well. As I flipped over the slab I was bummed. It looked like the back end blew out. But then I looked at it in the vise and saw this: Wife saw it and said "ooooo it looks like mine"

I Like that one......Question,do you just slab your thundereggs? These came with the last batch of rocks I bought. I only cut some slabs off this because I could see the Opal where it had broken some off of the end. The other pieces I've cut off this one rock are pretty rad. Will have to post the other pics of it. Sadly, there's a fracture like going right through the opalized portion. It's broken on all three of the next slabs I cut. Did you have some recommendations?

Some eggs have healed fractures, some are just broken, better off to just finish slabbing it and see what you come up with..(an idea will come to ya')......But from what I see and hear, they still sell.........To bad there wasn't enough left to just make a box (Square it)out of it-I bet it would have turned out great!! I do that to eggs once in awhile....

fossilman Left is slab and right is what's left of the rock (it looks like a bee got imprinted and I happened to slice it down the middle) The rest of the rock (right side) The slab that really crumbled though the common Opal And a closeup of the remaining rock

Yes opal is hard to work with, most of it it fragile..It might have to be used for tumble material...I just break off the matrix and throw it in tumble pile... I also have a grandkid pile of rocks-every time they come over, most of them go to the pile and take one rock home...Mom and Dad love me for that-LOL NOT! To bad, because the cuts, themselves, are very nice....
