Help!! We just moved into a new house and my tumblers are temporarily living in the laundry room. The rotary tumblers are not too loud but the Ultra Vibe is too loud to run at night it can be heard throughout the house. Is there anything that I can put in that will quiet it down enough so I can let it run 24/7. I was thinking maybe plastic pellets, metamucil, or soap. Right now I am doing the 120/220 stage. Any ideas?

Hey meviva. I place a 5 gal bucket over mine. You do need to prop up the corner to let heat out. I do take it a step further and line the inside of the bucket with carpet padding. Hope this helps. M

How do you quiet down a vibe? Unplug it!
Seriously though, if the bucket trick doesn't provide enough sound insulation, you can build a box out of 1.5" to 2" thick rigid foam insulation. I live in a cold area where you can buy rigid foam in 2' x 4' sheets at Home Depot, or any building center. This will dampen the sound to a dull roar.
Good luck.
Darryl.

markymark I was hoping to put something in the barrel that would help, if I can't figure anything out I will try the 5 gallon bucket. 150FromFundy Unplugging does work...I unplugged it last night because I couldn't sleep with it running, but sure does slow down the process. broseph82 I'll be sure to try that tonight....lol. Thanks, Andrea

meviva my bedroom is above my garage and I can hear my tumbler(s) going but I have an air purifier in my room that cancels out any other noise. def have something foam rubber on the bottle of tumbler so it dampens noise some. I just don't think you're gonna get away with completely silencing it unless it's off.

broseph82 I was just hoping to muffle the sound a bit for now. It's almost time to do a clean out and switch grits so I think I will throw some plastic pellets in it and see what happens. Then if that doesn't work I will try wrapping the bowl with carpet pad or something to see if that helps. Andrea

Since you just moved, you might just have a large box that you could put over it at night. Set it on the floor. and set a book or something on top of the box. This worked well for me- I don't mind being lulled to sleep by the sloshing of a rotary, but the sawtooth waves emitted by a vibe tumbler really get on my last nerve @ night. Please don't use plastic pellets in your vibe- they act as mini- superballs bouncing your pretties against each other. Unless your into the "crazed" look.

Be careful! I threw a jacket over mine when we had some company for dinner because you could hear it humming from the garage. I forgot about it and the next morning it was really silent. Fried the motor by covering it! It can get really hot. At least I found out how well insulated that jacket is!!

Don't know how you run yours but .... My UV18 gets quieter the fuller it gets.
Manufacturer says to fill it to about the center of the bowl which they say is about 3/4 full. I fill all the way to the top of the cone. Once a slurry forms it isn't much louder than my rotaries (12#).
