My wife and I took a short trip to the Pheonix area this past weekend for a family wedding and to catch up with relatives that she had not seen for a very long time. I had made some arrangements with @edmohs a little while back, for him to make a heart pendant as a gift for my daughter. I was going to send him some slabs of things that I found myself as a meaningful part of the project. When I learned that I would be travelling near Ed's home I decided to visit him and deliver the slabs in person. Ed was available as soon as we landed and since he was right by the airport, by wife and I dropped by for our very first stop in Pheonix. Let me tell you, Ed is a great guy and as much of a colorful character as you might imagine from his humorous posts on the forum! He knows so much history of the area, I dare say he is part of Pheonix's history. If you want to learn some good stuff while you are in that part of the world, you need to go see him.
I talked to Ed about my plans to run out for a short rockhounding adventure on the following day but I wasn't really sure where to go. He sounded interested in heading out with me so I was going to let him know my plans later. The plans never materialized. My wife and I stayed with her aunt and uncle and it turned out that her uncle is a geologist that works for the Arizona DOT. I could have talked for many days with this great guy who was not a rockhound but had an endless amount of information about the entire State. Anyway, I stayed up too late talking and the following day we ended up seeing one set of relatives after another until it just got too late to drive out to find some rocks. Bummer! I felt bad that I had left Ed hanging. Unbeknownst to me at the time, he started creating the heart that I had asked for! Well, not only one but two!! While I was busy ruining a chance to go dig up rocks with him, he was putting his heart into some hearts. I can't say enough good things about this man. Ed, you are one of a kind! Here is what Ed created in a very short time:
This one is actually a half agate and half jasper piece that Ed matched up so well from two different stones, you can hardly tell the difference. Unless you hold it up to the light and the agate half becomes translucent. Really beautiful!
This other one is two halves of two different agates that I collected here in colorado. Ed has a great eye for finding the cool patterns in the slab.
Other side...
Hey, if you want to have some beautiful custom made hearts for your sweeties, for Valentine's Day or any other day, you should contact @edmohs! You will be really happy with them!!
