herchenx and I were talking about gemstones, so I pulled a few of mine out for quick pictures. I still have some in trays and some in a safe deposit box, but there's some nice ones here. The pix wash them out a bit but you get the idea.
Some raw rainbow hematite- not from Russia, I am told it is from Brazil. Absolutely beautiful!
All different garnets and a few more thrown in. They get mixed up and then I have to get my tools out! Ugh!
A beeee-u-tiful red zircon which doesn't look like much in the picture. The other, I think, is a real red spessartite garnet, but it didn't photograph well.
Amethysts of different origin with some others thrown in. My biggest and best is from Bolivia and is in the safe. African ones are nice, too.
sapphires, andesine, tourmaline, rhodochrosite, ruby, kunzite and rose quartz. The latter looking very washed out. There's some other random ones thrown in- I'm not real organized. Not sure of the green one- probably Mt. St. Helens, it came in a lot.
close up of maybe my favorite- a fanta orange fire opal. The color seers your eyeballs in person, big, too.
Forgot to take the lids off. Chrome diopside, controversial African "molavite", emeralds, peridot and some small but very nice color change Chrysoberyl
Iolite, blue topaz, aquamarine, tanzanite, sapphire, kyanite and others - what's not in the safe. I have a thing for blue sapphire and tanzanite.
Color change green andesine, smoky quartz, sapphires, I think, tourmalated quartz, barrell cut blue topaz pair, white topaz and garnets. The gold one in the middle is a man made Russian stone that I can't remember the name of with more dispersion than diamond. It's stunning and very rare now. It takes more money to make than they can get for them, so they stopped making them- at least that's the story a few years ago. I think it is titanium something. Or, something like that.
I left out the citrines for the most part and the white quartz etc- except a lot of those have real nice cuts. If I find some cool stuff i the trays, I'll post here.
Anyone else wanna show their gemstones? Don't post anything real valuable, I wouldn't.
