Took me a minute to see straight after watching those. was video one (round ceramic) taken at the start of a load and video two (gravel) after it had been running awhile? Video two looks like it has slurry developed and video one does not.

Took me a minute to see straight after watching those. was video one (round ceramic) taken at the start of a load and video two (gravel) after it had been running awhile? Video two looks like it has slurry developed and video one does not. Chuck Exactly. Cleaned out #2 yesterday and started then #1 yesterday. So not apples for apples. #2 filmed cold, as the sugar heats up in a few hours from the motor heat the rotating action should speed up. And the bouncing rocks should slow down. #2 has an accumulation of big rocks to the left. A problem. OK for agates but tends to slightly frost a big quartz. Flatter media really sends the big rocks to the left. Only by accident did I discover rounder media helps the issue.(Inga's aquarium gravel trial # 3.4.89 That is a big tumbler so I was wanting to do larger rocks. Was disappointed by this problem. So the scrutiny on round media. And like you may have 30 cabs in 4 pounds of media, big rocks do fine with 8 pounds media and 6 pounds big rocks. But lots of media required. But just as important was switching to ceramic media as we discussed yesterday. Pretty sure it is the ticket for the vibe. tom, would not be surprised if the result is the same. You can see why the need for round media above. And desire to switch to ceramics. Ceramic media's specific gravity is higher than most rocks. I think weight helps. I once filled the 14 pound Viking hopper with small almandine garnets and the hopper held 24 pounds ! No void volume and high specific gravity. quartz-2.7, garnets 3.8, made the vibe motor go into Deliverance mode (squeal) LOL. Jugglerguy mentioned you knew of/ had some high performance media. Lot-O sells it ? Attention needs to be cast on such. Media very varied. Ebay media probably cheap media. The balls I bought were darn heavy, used, and no telling what the AO content is. Could be high end stuff from some cash rich manufacturer. Could easily do a specific gravity test. The higher the AO content the heavier. They could be softer zirconia, but I could tell by the weight of the box they are not SG 6. SG 6 is HEAVY. Steel is 7.8... Check out this supplier of media. Bet they could answer some questions about the best media for rocks. Lot-O guys probably know as well : www.usstoneware.com/grindingmedia.htm

I don't think Tom invented the Lot-O, but I'm not sure. I believe he currently manufactures it.

I don't think Tom invented the Lot-O, but I'm not sure. I believe he currently manufactures it. I think the high level engineer designed that one. Amazes that it is designed to be attached to so much weight. Shape of hopper unlike any other. I have seen a lot of vibratory machinery but the Lot-O is all to it's own. Every once in a while I search industrial tumblers to see if a mimic of the Lot-O is made as a larger unit.

Yes, I have bought from Kramer. They do precision abrasives. Never even thought about those big aluminum oxide chunks rubbing against the hopper. Some members have worn thru their hoppers, bet it was the media. Plastic floaters a good hint. Could the hopper be made of polyethylene ?
