While tenting in the White Mountains of New Hampshire last summer, Laura shopped at the factory outlet stores, and I rock hounded. It’s not very often that you find a trail for people like us, but it can happen. Moat Mountain Trail Head This is such a rare sight that I had to take a closer look. The USFS designation means that you have to pay a few bucks for trail pass and are restricted to hand tools and common sense. In spite of all that, I still had a good time. Rock Hounds Welcome I only had few hours before sunset in bear country, and I wasn’t really prepared for a dig. I did manage to find a few scraps of feldspar and mica, but nothing that warranted space on a display shelf. Not Fully Equipped for Rock Hounding Fortunately, Conway, NH has a rock shop and I did manage to find a few affordable specimens in the area. Smokey Quartz, Microline, Stilbite, Muscovite Smokey Quartz, Microline Smokey Quartz, Microline, Albite Smokey Quartz, Microline, Albite Darryl.

I've never seen a sign for rockhounding! Sometimes the best finds of a trip are in the gift shop!
ps: I like your avatar. Makes me smile every time I see it.

Beautiful smokey quartz and felspar. Refreshing to see a welcome rock hunters attitude. Hat's off to NH.
