Hello everyone. I need some advice on making a slightly-larger-than-quarter-sized ammolite ammonite into a pendant. This will not be done by me, as I don't have the necessary skills YET. What would be the best method to prevent cracking and aesthetics. I have heard a multitude of answers...so I would like a somewhat general consensus here (if possible). Thanks!

just now seeing your post. Is the Ammonite whole, cut in half, or a quarter sized piece of Ammolite from a larger shell? How thick is it? My favorite method of backing Ammonites, Turquoise and other stones is Devcon plastic steel which is very much like JB Weld. This is how I set many Ammonites and it would also work with the flat surface inward so the Ammolite on the outer surface would be visible. Feel free to message me with any questions as I sometimes loose track of threads

Beautiful set on that ammonite!!!!!!! Thankee kindly Sir! Because the edges are so delicate and prone to chipping, or the entire thing cracking along the chamber lines, I back every one of them with plastic steel.

I hunt for ammies in Montana, finding dinner plate to nickle to quarter sizes...I was always afraid to cut any of the ammies, they are fragile,if not cut right..

My problem was the expiration date. They meant it! Time's up - whole can went hard. Is it still that way?

I bought the 1 pound container as above, but have only used about half of it and noticed it is getting kinda firm. I prefer the smaller two part tubes like most clear epoxies when I can find them.
