Wow, for us poppy lovers, your posts almost border on torture. You are really finding some old timey beautiful poppy material. Haven't seen Morgan Hill stuff that nice in years...Mel

Amazing finds! How big are these? Fist/double fist size. Finding some solid rocks, for this type material. The largest i've found in this area was 15lbs, down to dime size. I don't bend down for dime sized rocks, but many times what appears to be small, comes out large.

I need to make a drive up. Nothing sitting in plain sight, need to look for small areas of color and dig it up. However, 2-3" soaking will have them plentiful and unearthed. Timing is important in a small area. Here's one of my favorites from the other day, almost nothing showing, but was stunned when it came up. Near fist size- Last month had a friend from Texas and another local, serious collectors and lapidaries both, out to collect. Between the 2 they found one red/yellow poppy golf ball size. I could feel the disappointment. You just never know! If you don't look you don't find!!

I find the same thing hounding local washes and along the rivers.. always looks for the smalls. Sometimes they're just chips, but sometimes they're the tip of the icebergs!

PJ will likely be in eastward facing ridges associated with "green rock". I'd luv to take you and everyone collecting, but have learned sobering lessons with doing that. I absolutely leave the area just as I find it, (many), others like to put their print on the wilderness. This used to be my morning wildlife, nature walk. Now, i'm dodging cig butts, empty plastic bottles and trash left behind, rearranged natural features, on and on sadly. I'd bet I lose access soon! Sadly I know that from someone in a position to know.

Sadly I know that from someone in a position to know. There's so much trash in California, and it's only getting worse. When I was in Girl Scouts we regularly did beach clean ups and the stuff we'd find was absolutely appalling. When I go to scout out around Uvas for PJ (just taking a wild guess, I have no real basis.. ) I'll be sure to bring a trash bag for stuff I find in the water then. Fish/water birds eat that stuff and starve because it obstructs their stomachs and makes them feel full, and with all the shrinking water levels I think native species are pressed enough.
