Nice maters. Lowes? Meh..... Yeah, thats where I get them! Lowes,Home Depot, supplied by Bonnie. The only places I can depend on to get the Celebrity variety I plant.Tried all local suppliers, should have seen the results. They buy cheaper seed and stick a celebrity label in them because its the most popular. People buy them and when hardly any production from the plants, say must of been a bad year.I used to buy a dozen at a time from different sources and grew them side by side.Should have seen the different varieties that were supposed to be Celebrity. Yeah, home depot. Skip Lowe's. I wear an orange apron.

beefjello Do you have alkaline soil ? We have acid and have to add lime. Thought soil out that way is alkaline.

Okay, I have to get in on this. While all y'all are waiting to plant this years tomato crops, I am still enjoying tomatoes from the garden on last year's plants.
This was the plant a couple months ago.
This plant is an heirloom variety called Mr. Stripey. Although I am not a tomato snob, it has good flavor. But I am actually more impressed with its tenacity/hardiness.
I have never had a tomato plant overwinter before. Mainly, because by August/September, they have all gone brown and died on me. This plant was a volunteer from seed dropped in previous years. It did not have to live through the hot months, as it did not come up until October or so. Wonder if that will ever happen again?
Had a couple frosts a week or two back, some of the tips got burned. But it's still all good!
Mr. Stripey, good eatin'!
These two are on my kitchen counter as I type.
Good luck with your gardens, Brian and snuffy!

This was the plant a couple months ago.<snip> I had an old fella call me a couple of years ago with a swarm of bees he wanted me to come get. He told me they were on a collard plant. Ok, I figured they were down around ground level, no problem. When I got there he had six foot tall collard plants....bare stalks up to about two feet from the top. He said he'd been pulling leaves off of them for the last three years. Amazing....

Rubbing the warmth in rockpickerforever 37F the high today in Atlanta, windy, cloudy and overcast.Yuk You betcha, James! But it comes at a cost. Only 68 degrees right now, but it will be warming up plenty soon enough. Expecting record setting highs for this date today, will let you know how that goes (and rub it in again, lol).
Will be enjoying my sunshine a little bit later today, gotta get that tan darkened up again.

Seriously rockpickerforever, just came back from tumblers in nursery and did a clean out on the vibe. Return trip (30 seconds) iced the fingers, tingles and ouches. Stuck them on the Ms. and got 2 black and blues, moved over to the hot box dogs and tortured them as hand warmers. No one likes me. Is your soil acid or alkaline Jean ? You don't use lime do you ?

James jamesp, I'm in the southwest... of course I have alkaline soil! I don't personally use lime, but when I pot plants up for my dad (especially tomatoes!), he always has me add lime. Don't know how necessary that is, though, as he has me use store bought potting soil!

Haven't been around much, spent most of my precious few spare minutes the past week or so getting things ready for a yard sale we had this past weekend. Made some room in the garage, as well as a few extra bucks (yay!). That much closer to reaching my saw and cabber too! Things have really been shooting up in the garden. Here's some pics I took Sunday Spinach and Kale. Clipped some of the larger kale leaves yesterday for Christa's smoothie. Lost one of the broccoli plants. Put in a little 'big beef' tomato in it's place. Been enjoying radishes, pulled a bunch yesterday. They went a little long and didn't bulk up as much as they should have.. prolly because I didn't thin them quick enough, but they're still tasty! jamesp we have pretty much clay like soil that's alkaline. I turned the soli and mixed in lotsa stuff, but not lime (mulch, top soil, bull sh!t, some sand, etc.) rockpickerforever them Mr. Stripeys look mighty tasty!
