My saw mud gets thick and rubbery from using 75% kerosene and 25% 10W-40. Peels off like soft taffy. Designed and welded this device, a repurposed trowel. Handle higher to keep knuckles out of oil. Angles cut to fit crannies and surfaces in 18" saw body and carriage. Very sharp. Handle is 1.25 galv. electrical conduit.

Now that's a great idea!!! Must have sawn a lot over the years Michael. The ole MK 303S blade has less than 1/8" diamonds left. Will be time to chunk down some change soon.

Nice looking design and should making scraping easy-peasy. I struggled finding make shift items for oil clean outs till I came across a feed scoop at tractor supply. holds a good amount of oil each scoop, handle is high and it is rigid enough to scrape some gunk. Not as manly looking though. Could always pop rivet a sheet metal blade to the front to man it up a bit. Chuck

The carriage on the Covington is a flat plate. Cross feed elevated about an inch rolls on top of plate. That flat design does well at removing the accumulation on that plate under the cross feed. cross feed rolls on the plate. When that trowel was full size it worked your wrist hard, finally the handle broke off. Cutting it shorter increased leverage. broseph82, did MK suggest you speed your rotation with a pulley change. Those segment blades are best spun like 15-20% faster if I remember correctly. Chuck, I can not have high walls on my scoop. There is a lot of hardware in the way.

Ah I forgot most saws are that way. My 14" has the arbor mounted to a large table and those both hinge to the base at the back of the saw so everything including the blade is out of the way for cleaning. Takes about 5 minutes with that scoop. Tabletop, arbor, blade and vise all on hinge. Wish the saw were larger but love the ease of cleaning. This was the day I brought it home. Has never been that clean again. Chuck

What brand saw is that Chuck? I like how the arbor is mounted to give more usage of the blade as opposed to arbors below the deck.
There is a cover/lid isn't there?

They made a 10" exact same style too. Yes there is a full clear cover. The whole vise and rail assembly is quick disconnect for using it as a trim saw but I could not imagine trying that due to the mess. Diamond pacific took over the design but at $2800 it is a very expensive 14" saw www.diamondpacific.net/tc14trim.html10" same style www.diamondpacific.net/tc10trim.htmlChuck

That Diamond Pacific 14" is one good looking saw! Even more expensive than the BD 14 I picked up last year. I really like the higher arbor, not so sure about the top to bottom vise as I'm not used to that type. You like that vise as well or better than the front to back vise?

That saw would be a breeze to clean. Like the way the whole mechanical unit lifts away. heavy duty rascal.
