February 2016 Friendly Cab Contest /Challenge
This is a challenge to yourself... What is the best cab that you can create... posting the results of your creation whatever the outcome.
Theme: Valentines day: heart shaped cabs (any color) and/or cabs with the colors of reds, pinks, purples, whites, peach which are bright or pale.
Rules: -
Cabs entered must be completed by the deadline (they can be started before the month). All entries will require a photo of the slab or rock, preform and finished cab. So no cabs pulled from the drawer.
You can enter as many photos of the finished cab as you like (within reason) on the same post. If you decide to add another photo later on, please edit your original post.
Things like intarsias, carvings, jewelry, and composite type cabs may not be entered (unless otherwise specified) in an effort to keep the contest somewhat fair by just entering free form style cabs. It is OK if there is a hole drilled in the item with or without a jump ring, as long as there is no extras on the rock (wire, chord, etc.)
We ask that all entries submitted to this contest be unique to this competition (not submitted in several different competitions). any duplicates will not be included in the voting list.
Feel free to share with us what ever you like about the material, the process or what ever else you would like to share.
Also, don't forget to include the name of the material.
If a tie occurs in the voting the breaker will be whoever submitted the finished item first.

OK, here is my submission for this months contest. This contest reminded my that i really suck at hearts, LOL! I think this is maybe my second one ever. Anyway, here is the slab, a rather large piece of tiffany stone that took some wrangling to get it positioned in my trim saw: here is the cab location marked: and here is the finished cab that i am naming "Candy Heart" after those little candies you used to get at Valentines with the writing on them. Thanks for the contest! KD

Looks really nice krazydiamond . If I have time, and noone else decides to make a prize, I will try to make everyone a winner and make a video of my tips and tricks for heart shaped cabs. I'm working 60 hrs a week though so no guarantees it will be immediately after the contest.

The cutting just needs practice thats all. First piece for valentine contests, and likely entry here. One blade up to here. So for those of you with no Fordome or dremmel, that is something you can do. Given I got practice, and my wheel is a little smaller, you will have a harder time, but its possible. Thanks for looking, Kurt Edit: Final picture:

Thanks for looking, Kurt That has a unique twist to it. You blade / knife thing looks like something I could make on my 6" wheels, although i'd have to level out the bottom rightmost curve a bit. One tip for those that may have a hard time with the inner angle is that all angles most be at least 90* or more. to get rid of the "V" cut the hard wheels make one needs to use the very edge of the wheels (I make a shallow pit giving 2 bumps to my heart).

Nice work KD & Kurt. I don't think I have ever attempted a heart, so I may try this.

Thanks Kurt. Your heart definitely has more style. Do I dare say it's a little sexy?
I added more pix of my heart cab. I got some in natural light this morning.

Glenn, I bought the slab cheap & unmarked at a local rock show - I'm assuming it's Mexican lace.
KD, thank you, but I don't think mine is any better than yours.

Finally found what I am going to cab... I'm going to go with a heart shape but this may be my most difficult heart and cab I will have made to this day when completed.. I'm hoping to get my preform drawn tomorrow. My plan is a amythest crystal in agate heart. I should draw 2 preforms just in case I mess one up

One week to go and only four entries? Where is everyone? Its been a quiet month overall on all platforms, but such a wide open theme should have gathered more entries.
