One week to go and only four entries? Where is everyone? Its been a quiet month overall on all platforms, but such a wide open theme should have gathered more entries. You have one in progress right? We can up the tally to 5. My guess is that the first option made people not want to try and didn't see the 2nd option as noted by some in last months thread. I do find it interesting that everyone so far decided to follow both options.

Well, I'll throw my cab into the ring. Did just what glennz01 said, I decided to follow both options (color and shape). Do I get brownie points for that?
Picked up the little slabette at a show somewhere. Not positive, but pretty sure it is rhodonite. A little soft, but heavy!
In case you wondered, I did this on my flat lap, sans water shield.

In case you wondered, I did this on my flat lap, sans water shield. That turned out nice, I guess everyone that followed both parts got brownie points. I gave that option mostly for people that refused to do hearts... but it looks like they might not enter this contest at all. The real questions are: did you have fun making it? Maybe learn something new? Those are the questions that count in my opinion! I'll probably cut mine out tomarrow, maybe start grinding it.

Must have been tired and didn't see the name with the rock -,- Never gave a name because the person who gave the slab to me is not sure either. I presume its from Turkey and could be called "dendrite jasper" or something like that. Its neither opal or agate that comes usually with the dendrite label from that country.

I always enjoy making cabs. Did I learn something new? Not really, I have made heart cabs before.
BUT, it did make me remember how much of a mess the flat lap makes without the water shield, lol.
One that didn't work out , but this is how it is done. Kinda thought it might not work out, so I did the other one as well.
Jean that's an awesome heart - & on the flat lap gets triple brownie points! Thanks, Nate.

Looks like you use a similar technique that I do, although it looks like your angle can be steeper than mine.

It's pretty soft, and the white matrix started dissolving as it got wet. Yes, it came apart on me. I will probably salvage it (good old superglue!), just didn't have time to deal with it now.

I never realized that garnets have inclusions like that. Thanks for the lesson.

Finally finished... I may try to get a better pic later. For all those that are worried about breaking stuff... If I couldn't break this you shouldn't have too many problems.

Cool concept with the amethyst center. I like it I havent made too many druze pieces before, I'm going to try and do some cabs with natural textures inside some time. I have come cool local bubble and sphere chalcedony / agate that will be interesting. I was thinking of making that a theme for one month.

Squeezed this one in. A pity - pitty red moss from the 50 cent bargain bin. This is one of the very first slabs I bought and I kept waffling on what shape to use. Might as well use it for a challenge as anything else. Slabbette Preformed. I have slightly less than 1" clearance between my wheels, so it's a good thing it was small. Profile Polish - Stopped at 3k. The moss is so pitted that any polish would stand make it worse. Partly back-lit. I framed the heart to try and center the floating glob of red moss. Detail in the heart of the heart.
