Howdy folks, Saw has been down awhile now as I had a Rio shift in the saw vice and trash both my blade and burn up my drive belt. Saw was totally covered in rock goo so I had to clean it first to be able to get at all those dang tiny Covington bolts that hold the table on. Horrible chore! Then of course, one has to deal with the fact that there ain't no finger space to get in and put the new blade on. Man, these saws are a booger to work on! Anyway, put my backup blade on, not my favorite, but I was out of MK301's ( incredible blades for cutting hard agate, wood and jasper), installed a new belt ( another major operation) and got everything put back together. Cut these first four slabs and so far it seems to be running OK. MK 303 continuous rims do run quieter than the 301 notched rims Here are a couple of pics. The Rio that trashed my saw. Pretty but evil! Dang thing! Greenie I've been wanting to cut open for a long time. Still have never found one with that beautiful green plume Matt Dillon finds every now and then.

Perseverance has paid off! That bad boy is pretty easy on the eyes if not the saw. Looking forward to seeing more.

Some of the neatest agates and jaspers Matt Dillon cuts are the green ones. He sometimes gets ocean jasper type orbs and these beautiful plumes that transition from yellow to green. I've not found one yet but one always hopes.
Cut the red swirly agate I posted under member photos. Absolutely freaking awesome but nothing at all like the white and red exterior. I figured it would be red filament moss against blue or white agate but was not even close. Got to get the oil off and then I'll take some pics....Mel

The fellow that let me hunt rocks on his ranch got a bag of green and red tumbles for Christmas. He gave them to his daughter and she filled a clear vase with them for deco. The mosses are every color in the spectrum except blue.
Must be some serious chemical variations in their formation. Not sure that just iron can do yellow orange purple red green.

Iron does indeed make all those colors. Red and black = iron oxides Yellow and green = iron oxide hydroxides Purple = potassium ferrate Orange is red and yellow. Cook yellow is reduces to red. Cook purple it reduces to yellow

I need to rework my Genie and put new wheels on as it's about falling apart. Got one of those defective wheels from DP where it's rusting and all the diamond coating is just falling off in sheets and the stupid baseboard is warping like a bow. Who the heck makes a baseboard from chipboard anyway? Not exactly waterproof. Anyway, I mostly enjoy cutting open rocks to see what's inside and find cabbing boring and hard on my old fingers during cold winter temps. So I may cab a few next spring when it gets warmer *L*....Mel

We famous for iron compounds in our soil. cheated iron an additive for greening plants up, so we are very green Makes our cherts fun to heat treat for color blasts.

I guess I'm along the same line of preferences... My order of fun is : 1. The hunt....love to hound...and find that killer rough 2. Cut it up and see what you got 3. Cab up that perfect little area of the slab that shows off it's best aspect Although I do confess to spending a fair amount at Quartzsite every year (and occasionally a couple local shows) 'cause I just have to have more rocks, slabs,etc....
