Those who know me, know that I can usually find some killer deals on rocks and such, just about anywhere I go. Thought I'd share some pics of them with you.
Bear with me, for some crazy reason, I put them on flickr. (DOH!)
First up, an ammonite death plate. Ten bucks.
Paid a buck for this trophy. If was for some horsey thing. Remove the top, nice chunk of onyx.
Boulder opal, one dollar.
Lapis, one dollar. Very solid, not grainy, lot of silver specks in it.
Paid too much for this, $2.50. I think it is serpentine, more greenish-yellow than what I already have.
This was too cool. I will post it in a separate thread in the artifacts section. (Give me a few minutes, arghhh.)
Plant sellers numerous out there. One guy brings some not so run-of-the-mill cactus. Four inch pots are $5. I didn't have this one, so had to get it.
I don't know why I had to have this. Maybe 'cause it was only $1? A leather sculpture, says "Made in Finland" and "June 1993" on the back. Someone put a lot of work into it. The photo doesn't do it justice, very 3-D.
A heavy duty plastic sink, $5. It's not going to work for what I had in mind (gold panning - pan is to wide for use in it). mrrockpicker will still make a metal stand for it, will be useful for something else, no doubt. Maybe washing off rocks?
For @shotgunner. An improvement to the Homer buckets. (Do they have suggestion boxes in the store?)
These retail at $2 each (probably would wholesale for a quarter in quantity). If HDX would put them on their buckets, I'd pay an extra buck for the bucket. Essential for carrying heavy loads of rocks!
Thanks for looking!

Nice day at the swap meet! I like your piece of boulder opal best.
That "artifact" is pretty darn cool. Any ideas on it?
Your Made in Finland creation ought to at least double your money at your next garage sale!

Since my briefcase weights about 15# that snappy grip would be cool. Color is correct as well!

I knew all of you (especially @shotgunner !) would like that handle. I've only seen them in orange so far. Picked that up at a local prospector's supply store on Sunday as well. Been using them for years, definitely a hand saver!

I usually go to the Sports Arena but rarely find much. Too Commercial. Cool stuff!

Nice Ammonites. A Refiner Plate or a Millstone. Spin them against each other and make paper. Thanks, amygdule . Millstone, maybe... Had a thought that it could be used to pull dried corn off the cob. Craig socalagatehound , although we are only a couple blocks from the SV swap meet, we hate to go there. It is always crowded, and full of rude people!
Kobey's, we tend to make it there once every couple of years.
I got this agate there last August, that's the last time we were there. And you have probably already guessed it, I got this for a buck. (If you want to check out the progression of the grind, here's the link .) Have found some rocks there on occasion, but usually end up buying books and small potted cactus there.
Ground it into this double-sided cab. A small hole opened up on one side
No, we actually go out to Santee swap meet. As you know, it's about ten miles from here, but don't mind the drive. We hadn't been for a month or so, figured Super Bowl Sunday would be a good day. I wasn't disappointed! I guess I just have the nose for deals!
Thanks for your comment.

Ammonites are striking, the ghosts in the background included. The variety of categories would test the mind, obviously not just rocks.
The second photo of the serpentine is incredible.

Gonna have to look into the 'Snappy Grips' thing.. too cool! Hey, Brian. I really like them, they make toting those buckets full of rocks a little easier. You can buy them online -
Snappy Grip
but we have always just picked them up when in Quartzsite. There is a prospecting group that always has a booth at the Pow Wow. Jean
