Hi all. I just wanted to give shout out and introduce myself. I finally got a tumbler after years of wanting to and am tumbling my first batch with a vibratory tumbler. The rocks are all mohs 7 . Fingers crossed!

Welcome to the forum! Are you going strictly vibe with no rotary?

I use all Lortone barrels in all sizes for my rotary tumbling after 4 years of non stop tumbling I have not had any issues. The folks using thumblers stuff seem happy too. Homemade is always an option and I have one of those too.
A vibe tumbler will not handle stage one grit so if you do not get a rotary tumbler you will never be able to grind down rough rocks or hammer broken stuff. If you are collecting beach rocks that are already pretty smooth to start with then a vibe will work ok for that.

Lortone all the way - but I've never tried Thumbler.
Where in the Chicago area are you from? I grew up in Schaumburg. In-laws live in Oswego.
