Rutilated quartz is the most beautiful quartz around. It usually retails for around $25 a lb. That is the only reason why I havn't tumbled any of it. I have a 2 lb crystal of rutilated quartz. I'll post some pics when I get my new camera.
If you were to tumble it, it wound polish up really nice.

Rollingstone, Rutilated quartz occurs naturly here. Most of my last batch was what I found around here and in the river. It turned out better that anything eles but my inexpirience messed them up. (Bruised, not well polished) but I can certainly see the potential for someone who knows what they are doing. I'll start setting it aside for you and when I have enough you can just pay me shipping. It really is just stunning. All I've seen an web sites was dark, mine is clear and has lots of gold needles. I had stopped picking it up for awhile cause I'm concentrating on the agate, but now I have an excuse to go wade in the river again ;D

Hey John, that's doable. I would like some of both those. Might be a few days before I have the time and energy to get out and collect some more flint though. Pet wood is no problem. It's in a bucket in my living room! I'll collect ya' some good flint - different colors and lots of bands. Just probably won't do it until I can catch up on some rest. I am one worn out puppy!

Hi Llana, You rest, I'll hunt. I can see by the "having a bad day posts" That we both have to get past some things, but I've really been missing going to the river and wading around. There is so much quarzt, rutillated and otherwise, that I get boared with it. You send me your "boaring" flint and I'll give you all the quartz you can tumble. You too Sandman. I had no idea how much this stuff is going for. And I'd much rather have what you all have got too much of. Happy hunting!

Total: $1050 after haggling. Actually, he haggled himself. First he want $1300. Then $1200. Then $1100. You get the point. The things I do for my rocks. Rollingstone, when I first stratrted I didn't realize how the differances in hardness of stones was so important. I ran a batch that was primarily quartz but had some much harder stones in it as well. The harder stones banged up against the quartz and cracked them in a fracture spot, making a white "briuse" on the stone. Messes up the whole effect. Lesson learned: untill you understand the hardness levels of what you are tumbling, only tumble the same stone in a batch. cookie
