Not sure if this has been asked before or not but are there any very rough diamond burrs on the market for grinding stone into shape? Ideally something around 30-60 grit in a burr I can use in a Dremel or drill. I've checked ebay several times but they only seem to sell the 240 grit type which aren't good for shaping.

Check out Jade Carver ( google it ) I got a awesome set of burs from them and they come in different grits too

Not sure if you want something that coarse. I was having trouble getting polsih on some of my carvings, and my mentor/teacher commented that I was getting subsurface fractures from my coarse roughing burs that were showing up in the polishing phase. the solution was to go back with a finer bur and cut down past the fractured zone.

I was thinking of using the rough burrs to just remove bulk material, then gringing the surface down with a finer grit size.

Look for diamond cut off wheels on Ebay. You can cut and grind away alot faster than with small burrs.

I ended up finding a set of 50 dremel diamond carving bits on ebay with 46 grit size. I'm looking forwards to getting them and trying them out on some marble I found.
unclesoska, I have diamond cut off bits but they cut a much larger radius out of the stone than I'd like. I need bits that can grind out smaller areas.
Initially I was using some diamond bits that are made for cutting holes and they worked well for general bulk material removal, but weren't good for smaller areas.

Got some pretty heavy burrs from a vendor at a federation show. 40 grit, and that will grind down anything. But like it's already been said, keep a very light touch on the heavier grits and good luck!

I'm in Tennessee right next to Ohio and Kentucky (the tristate point).
I tried the bits out, man they bite into rock hard. 2 seconds flat and they ground deeply. Very nice, just what I was looking for to carve out the rough shape.
