Could you be more specific? Most fine amethyst crystals are too small to slab and are used for faceted stones or small cabs. The only notable types large enough to slab I'm aware of are Sowbelly and Chevron amethyst. Those display lacy and chevron patterns, respectively, and neither of them has pure purple color.

I bought a couple pounds of Chevron a couple years ago to make slabettes on the trim saw and found it to fracture very badly. Some fractured when slabbing, some fractured when cabbing, and much of it fractured when popping the cab off the dop stick after a few minutes in the freezer. What did survive made a few pretty cabs though. Could have just been a bad batch, or overzealous sledgehammer work when mining it

radio, I've made quite a few nice cabs from the African Chevron material but it does tend to be "cracky." You have to be extra careful when laying our your design. I like the stuff but haven't seen much for sale lately at a price I think is reasonable.

Mine was in pretty small chunks a couple inches across, so might have been broken up with a sledge causing the fractures.
