About mohs six, and those colors and patterns point to no obvious culprits. Can you give us more info? Specific gravity? How did you arrive at "about mohs 6"?
Where on this earhth was the rock found?

Where on this earhth was the rock found? @shotgunner I guessed the hardness just from cabbing the material. It is not very hard to shape but is not soft and take a matt finish. Found it at a garage sale and they had no clue either. Thanks for the response..............................MrP

I remember seeing an elephant carved of this stuff presented on another forum for ID, we were able to figure out that it came from india ( the carving).Looked like soapstone but the owner said it was a little harder. maybe that would give you a region of the world to search for matches.

MrP does a pocket knife scratch it? @shotgunner yes a knife will scratch it. The mauve part is actually a bit brittle............................MrP

Blade steel mohs 5. So less than mohs 5.
Could be marble or magnesite? Could be a ton of stuff.
