Many, many years ago, I bought from a place that sounds like the same place. It looks much different now, if it is the same place. I got some really great deals and was never disappointed. I'll do some more research and see if that was the same place.
edit- Sorry, I just looked and can't find the information but I did find that the site was run by a Mr David.

Hi Everyone, Iris here from Gem Rock Auctions. It is great to see you all talking abut us. I thought I would pop in and let you now a little bit about us - over 10 years ago we started Opal auctions which is now the biggest Opal selling website in the world. Soon after that we start Gem Rock Auctions with the same idea - We created an environment where nothing is man made or fake. Everything is natural and all treatments are disclosed. - The sellers on our site are all verified by us. We don't let just anyone in to sell stones. We stand behind our sellers 100% - We have a program called the "Gemstone Sheriff" program. A third party panel check our listings for accuracy. It just ads another level to buyers confidence - And of course we offer a money back guarantee.
If you have any other questions I would be more than happy to answer them.
Before I go just a quick note, all new customers get a $10 coupon to use on their first purchase. So what are you waiting for, jump in there and grab something
Regards Iris

Hi Iris gemrockauctions thanks for checking in and offering the coupon. Seems to be quite a busy and active site you have there - I've been digging around it a little and I'm quite impressed.

My first purchase at gemrock went without a hitch, but the second never arrived for whatever reason. The site were reasonably good at responding to the help tickets I raised, but on occasion I felt a bit left out on a limb. Finally the site put some pressure (in a nice way) on the seller but he still tried to fob me off with 'as you didn't buy postal insurance we can only offer another sale to the same value' 'cept there were no other stones as nice as the one I'd chosen and as I pointed out I had bought the postal insurance. Whereupon I was given a full refund. A further $10 offer didn't quite tempt me back.

Hi metalsmith,
I am sorry that your second experience with us was not ideal including our ability to support you in fixing your issue in a timely fashion.
We acknowledge your experience and are in the process of changing our refund procedure due to 'delayed or non delivery' of items. It's cases like yours that we learn from so thank you for sharing.
Because our business is truly international and deliveries and communication goes across many times zones and continents sometimes it can feel like solutions and communications can take a long time. This is something we can't change but we can certainly improve our communication and streamline our processes.
We do really value your custom and if you give us another chance I have left you a little present in your account :-)
Kind Regards Iris

Yeah that bugs me too - when I'm at a gem show I usually walk right on by the "by the carat" vendors. Unless they are selling something so high-end that I know I won't find it from the next guy - like that colla wood - or Larimar.

At the last show, one vendor had a balance scale that was set to weigh heavy. She put the rock on the scale and started to weigh it. I took the rock off and started to zero the scale. She didn't like it that I expected it to be zeroed before weighing the goods so I walked away.

I bought some gems at a gemshow and the guy made a big production out of zeroing the scale for me. So much so that I wondered what the trick was. LOL!

Two weekends ago when I bought that Colla wood I posted pictures of - the small piece and most of the other slabs had a strip of tape with the weight in grams already marked. Now keep in mind this was a $1 per gram material - I pointed out to the guy the larger slab was missing the weight and he replied that he had forgotten his scale but could estimate it ... oh h*ll no haha not at that price. He ended up going to another vendor to weigh it and turns out it weighed 33 grams more than he had estimated D'oh! He did the right thing though and gave it to me for his estimated weight so I was happy.

Great looking site and easy to navigate. Too bad they don't sell tumbling rough by the pound. But if I ever want a faceted stone/specimen, I know where to go.

I didn't take the last as I simply didn't find a stone that appealed. I know your stock is constantly changing and I will check back in with GRA; It wasn't a 'never again' experience. I'm just sorry you had to learn from me! I believe I represented the issue fairly, but Iris was personally involved and reassured me throughout.

Which seller? There are 155 sellers. Can you give us a hint who we need to stay away from?
What kind of feedback did they have?
Just a wild guess on my part, but I imagine this seller has a little more clout on that website than you do, if they just up and closed your account with no explanation. Is there more to this story?
I have never bought from there, have never been to the site, was not even aware it existed.
Caveat emptor...
