Looking close is something we all need to do. Appreciating the details of nature is part of lapidary and related activities. Your macros are neat.

Nice pictures. What's your setup? I've struggled taking picture like this and as you know some rock's best features are on the inside. (like people )

Very cool! I like them ! I've got a nice dissecting scope for insect ID but man I wish I had bought a fancier one with a built in camera so I could take macro pics of slabs etc. I'll have to see if I can get my Canon setup for macros one of these days....Mel

Indiana: My setup is an old iPhone4 for lighting, a cheap clip-on macro lens and an iPhone6 :-)

Some of the cheap point and shoots have fine macro setting. Hunt through the menu.

Garberg, Your post got me thinking about taking macros, but none of my lenses are really made for that. Instead, I put my cheap cell phone camera on top of a 10x loupe and gave it a go. I think it worked ok, considering the multiple focal planes on a roundish shaped rock. Thanks for the inspiration!
This video, however, was not filmed under magnification. These are actually tadpoles in a mud puddle at the ballpark tonight.

That looks really cool! I'll try to get a hold of a loupe and try that myself. Thanks for the tip!
