Found these guys swimming in my pool this morning. They hardly react when we go outside. The male on right is very colorful, but took pic from @50yds away and doesn't show. They seem to show up every other year and stay a short while.

Nice ducks! Around these parts, we have "ditch ducks". Mallards will form mating pairs and hang out in the roadside ditches until the last of the ice has melted and freed up the rivers and lakes.
Darryl.

Prolly in eclipse colors just ready to molt for breeding season.
Medium rare with a sour cherry sauce. Yummy.

Darryl. We have ditch ducks, too. They are usually a mated pair of mallards. It's so sad when one is run over. The other seems genuinely upset. Sometimes, ok often, they'll raise the ducklings right there in the ditch and stop traffic once in a while.

Yep, ditches, parks, wherever. Ince saw babies parade behind mom across the parking lot at a local shopping center.

We have them nesting inside our fence. The inmates feed them which is against the rules and I nail them for it, but they do it any way. They crap all over and so do the gulls. They know that it is safe and that no one will hurt them. (mostly)
We get to see rapes all of the time.
