this is a rio from Sabre52 slabbed by beefjello and polished by me. It keeps moving West. just a phone pic, but a nice start. i have a photo project in mind for it. gonna play with lighting and macro.. maybe stitch together macros into giant files for uber sized prints. Rio detail by Scott Solar, on Flickr

Like this doesn't already jump right out of the screen. It's like a swarm of embers. I had to see what you'd taken this with ... a phone?! Amazing.

Wowsers Scott, that is a nice shot indeed! Thanks Bill. I got lucky. A free rock from a friend. A cancelled appt allowed me to go to class and polish, and then lucky duck lighting finished it off.

Morning sun can be the best time for proper lighting. Nice shot! That would look amazing in a 24" x 24" metal backing.

This particular case seems to benefit from what a pro would call harsh lighting. I'm working towards metallic paper prints face mounted in acrylic. Google peter lik.

I was trying to think where I seen his work. He has a studio in Maui. Very inspiring for an amateur photographer! Is the process expensive?

I think a 48 x 72 inch print will be $500 paper and mount. That was two years ago and then, just from reading websites. Not a direct quote.
Take me a while to cover my walls. Better than paint, I can take them with me if I sell the house.
At 200dpi, that is 9600 x 14,400 pixels. Need to check the math, but i think that is six full size images from my canon, stitched together. That is likely to be two postage stamps in area of the stone..... Blown up to cover some real estate on my walls.
The area of the image in this thread is approximately the same as needed to make the giant print I discuss.

Thanks adamBrian, I flat lapped it 100-220-500-800 using grit then the boss put it on a warn 1200 diamond belt on a bull sized expando. After that 5 minutes per side on tin oxide saturated carpet, also on a flat lap. Looks wet.
